Owner-safe troubleshooting guide

Check external load and propeller condition

Inspect owner-visible external conditions that can contribute to inadequate power.

Before you begin

Stop the engine, control the ignition key and ensure the propeller is completely stationary before approaching the outboard.

Safety

Keep clear of sharp propeller edges. Never inspect near a rotating propeller and do not remove or replace the propeller as part of this guide.

Steps

  1. Stop the engine, control the ignition key and confirm that the propeller is stationary.

Safety: A stationary propeller can still have sharp edges.

  2. From a safe position, visually inspect the propeller for obvious impact damage.

Safety: Do not remove or straighten the propeller.

Stop: Stop if damage is visible.

  3. Inspect the visible hull and outboard exterior for marine growth that could add drag.

Stop: Do not enter the water or work where safe access is uncertain.

  4. Review load and trim context without performing running-engine tests.

Stop: Have a Yamaha marine technician assess persistent power loss or installation concerns.

When to stop

Stop if safe access is not possible, impact damage is visible or the installation requires adjustment or dismantling.

Professional help

Have a Yamaha marine technician inspect damage, mounting, persistent power loss or any uncertain condition.
