Owner-safe troubleshooting guide

Respond to excessive vibration

Stop operation and make a limited external inspection for the source-listed propeller, fouling, mounting and steering conditions.

Before you begin

Bring the boat under control, stop the engine, switch the ignition off and confirm that the propeller is fully stationary.

Safety

Do not continue a running test and do not remove the propeller, straighten components, tighten mounting hardware or repair the shaft or steering system.

Steps

  1. Bring the boat under control, stop the engine, switch the ignition off and confirm the propeller is stationary.

Safety: Never inspect near a moving propeller.

  2. From a safe position, visually check the propeller for obvious damage and foreign-material fouling.

Safety: Do not remove, straighten or replace the propeller in this guide.

Stop: Stop if access is unsafe or damage requires dismantling.

  3. Visually check for obvious looseness or damage at the outboard mounting and steering-swivel area.

Safety: Do not tighten mounting bolts or repair steering components in this guide.

Stop: Stop if any looseness, shaft concern or structural damage is visible or suspected.

  4. Arrange qualified inspection before further operation when the cause is not safely removable surface fouling or any damage is present.

Stop: Do not perform a running test to identify the source of vibration.

When to stop

Stop if safe access is not possible or any damage, looseness or uncertain condition is visible.

Professional help
