Owner-safe troubleshooting guide
Check fuel supply and starting basics
Perform limited visible fuel-supply and starting-setup checks without opening the fuel system.
Before you begin
Secure the boat, stop the engine, remove ignition sources and confirm that the surrounding area is ventilated.
Safety
Gasoline is highly flammable. Do not open fuel-system components, make electrical measurements or run the engine with the cowling removed.
Steps
Confirm that the boat is secured, the engine is stopped and ignition sources are removed.
Safety: Do not perform fuel checks in an enclosed or poorly ventilated space.
Confirm that sufficient fuel is available and look for any visible fuel leak.
Safety: Do not proceed if fuel is leaking.
Stop: Stop and contact a Yamaha marine technician if a leak is present.
Confirm the documented starting setup: fuel supply connected, control in neutral and engine-shutoff lock plate installed.
Visually inspect accessible fuel-hose routing and the filter bowl for obvious restriction, disconnection, water or debris.
Safety: Do not open, drain or dismantle the fuel system.
Stop: Stop if damage, water, debris or a condition requiring dismantling is found.
If the problem remains, stop owner checks and arrange professional diagnosis.
Stop: Do not test ignition, wiring or fuel pressure.
When to stop
Stop immediately for any fuel leak, damaged wiring, active warning or check that cannot be completed visually and safely.
Professional help
If the condition remains after the permitted checks, leave invasive diagnosis to a Yamaha marine technician.
