Owner-safe troubleshooting guide

Respond safely to a low-oil-pressure warning

Stop operation and perform the documented engine-oil level check without attempting internal lubrication-system repair.

Before you begin

Bring the boat under control, stop the engine and allow hot components to cool before opening the cowling.

Safety

Do not touch hot components or continue operating with the warning active. Keep the outboard vertical for an accurate oil-level check.

Steps

  1. Bring the boat under control and stop the engine immediately.

Safety: Do not continue operating with the warning active.

  2. Allow hot engine components to cool before opening the cowling.

Safety: Do not touch hot or moving components.

Stop: Stop if safe access is not possible.

  3. With the outboard vertical, use the dipstick procedure to check whether the oil level is within the documented range.

Stop: Stop if the oil is dirty, milky or outside the documented range.

  4. If the warning persists or the oil level is not clearly acceptable, do not restart for normal operation; contact a Yamaha dealer.

Stop: Do not attempt oil-pump, filter or internal-engine diagnosis.

When to stop

Stop if the oil is dirty or milky, the level is outside the documented range, the warning persists or safe access is not possible.

Professional help

If the oil level is not clearly within range or the warning continues, have a Yamaha dealer inspect the outboard before further operation.
